Description

This short clip highlights several issues related to the American food system. It critiques the current food system and pricing while advocating for healthier, more affordable choices.

Reflection

In my recent travels, I have observed that other countries offer more afforable and healthier food options compared to the U.S. This has led me to question the quality of what I am eating (is this really chicken?). Additionally, food prices are outrageously high right now. While inflation plays a role, healthier food options are often 2 to 3 times more expensive, making it difficult for those who want to eat healthier to afford it.

In many European countries, there is a stronger commitment to reducing the consumption of processed foods. This not only makes food healthier but more affordable as well. They also have stronger regulations regarding food marketing that priortize nutrious options over cheap, unhealthy processed foods. There are also many ingredients that are banned in other countries that are allowed in the U.S.

The U.S. food system prioritizes convenience and profit, resulting in higher prices for healthy foods. I believe this is a signficant issue that deserves more attention, as addressing it could help reduce chronic diseases and obesity.

America, let’s chat.
