Description
This video is a compilation of clips from different movies showing the experience of the eldest daughter. It is a dedication to eldest daughters everwhere, including myself.
Reflection
As an eldest daughter myself, I noticed that my parents were stricter with me than my younger brother in comparison. I thought it was because of the 7-year age gap, but as I talked with other eldest daughters and noticed others on social media, I noticed that I wasn’t the only eldest daughter who felt that I had more responsibility than my younger siblings.
I chose video clips from Encanto, Black Widow, The Hunger Games, Frozen, and Lilo and Stitch. Each of these movies show how eldest sisters look after their younger sibilings and deal with the harsh criticism of their other family members. The video is a slow progression of how far eldest daughters will go to protect their sibilings from protecting their younger siblings’ feelings to giving their life for them.
I used the song “What was I made for” by Billie Eilish for the background. This song was featured in the 2023 Barbie movie. It was first featured in the scene where the creator of Barbie shows Barbie what womanhood is like and it shows a lot of video clips of different women. After the movie came out, the song trended on Instagram and TikTok. Users on these platforms voiced their experiences (mostly negative) as women. I thought that this song was fitting to use for this manifesto.
