DISCUSSION
Rachel and Emma chose to add on to a recent SWCA presentation that the NSU WCC gave that discussed the value of social media in writing centers. The presentation was quite successful, and we felt as though elaborating on the presentation through an audio format would provide listeners a means of revisiting the content and learning more about social media within writing center spaces. We were able to record the podcast via an iPhone and later edit the audio tracks in iMovie while adding a graphic to the audio track that technically makes the file an mp.4. We felt as though combining the audio and visuals made it a more engaging experience for the listener and are super happy with the outcome!
REFLECTION
Our process with creating this podcast started by writing out a script for our discussion. While we knew that podcasts are suppose to be more conversational, we chose to write out a script so that we had talking points written out which lead to less editing down the line. While this was not a writing assignment, per say, the written component did help a lot in the long run of creating the podcast. We had to focus on what we were saying quite intentionally and really annunciate our words as well. The graphic attached to the audio showcases the NSU WCC’s brand identity, and reflects the logo of the Get Social podcast in a fun, lighthearted way. The fonts also align with the NSU WCC’s branding expectations. The podcast is clear, there is little background noise or distractions, and there are little to no pauses or breaks in the audio. Overall, we are quite satisfied with how the podcast turned out. We made an effort to convey the importance of social media within writing center spaces, and hope that you found our podcast useful and entertaining!
