The following presentation centers around the design and the techne of making. It was used to help guide fellow WRIT 5340 peers through the concepts associated with multimodality, video composing, literacy instruction, design thinking, and digital rhetoric.

Monique:

I am glad that I got the opportunity to talk about the power design has when composing with Emma. It was a great opportunity to collaborate because we both are interested in digital media and multimodality. The readings for the week expanded my knowledge by having me consider design from a video perspective. I do not have a lot of experience working with video, so it was nice to see different ways creators can manipulate different elements when creating a story. The readings also made me more cognizant of how multimodal projects can be implemented and assessed in the classroom. When students are educated about multimodality, they can become more critical of the affordances and limitations that exist when using technology to create and consume information. My favorite part of the presentation was our activity. It was great being able to see the different movie and TV posters that our class selected, which they then proceeded to relate to the concepts we had previously gone over.

Emma:

To begin, Monique was a fantastic partner to work on this presentation with! We worked together well, split the reading load fairly, and were able to communicate productively with one another to get the job done. I chose Week 10, specifically, to present because I am personally interested in the elements of design and enjoy reading about these topics. The four readings together taught us how to compose for multimodal assignments, and also discussed the benefits, differences, and challenges of composing through and with a variety of modes.

Monique and I created our presentation using the platform Canva. We worked together to choose a template and were able to design the slides in a manner that was creative and emphasized the elements of design thinking. Each reading had a brief summary, key takeaway points, and 2-3 discussion questions. One of our goals was to create a cohesive and consistent presentation that exemplified the assigned material in an instructional manner but was interested visually as well. Overall, I believe that we executed this project well and were able to create a presentation that was informative, exemplified the elements of design, and engaged the class through meaningful and productive discussion.
