Description:

The multi-page document I created is a fashion catalog called, FEMININE. Throughout the catalog, one will come across a chic fall collection that embodies a variety of colors and showcases the beauty of melanin as well. Also, the catalog serves as a sample of what a full catalog has the potential of looking like. For instance, I added photos of women modeling clothes and highlighting those articles of clothing throughout the catalog. The catalog is a great representation of me and all of the things that I am passionate about.

Reflection:

My design thinking process for the multi-page document was slightly different than that of the logo and the podcast because I tried to keep a company/client in mind. As I decided to take on the task of a creating a catalog I rummaged through all of my mom’s old magazines and catalogs and made a mental note of the conventions of a fashion catalog. I envisioned what companies such as Venus or JCPenney and how they would want their catalogs produced and then I put my own spin on it. So, I broke a couple of conventions while creating my catalog (i.e. the back cover).

Moreover, the finalization of the project I ended up using Canva as my base because as stated before I am more comfortable in that software. I wanted to use Adobe InDesign but I became increasingly frustrated because I realized that I did not know all of its functions as well as I thought I did. Initially, I was adamant on using InDesign but my catalog just did not come out the way I envisioned it because I was limited. Limited in the sense that I did not know all of the functions like I did for Canva. The thing that I was satisfied with the most was the ability to go above and beyond what Canva can actually do. Most of the times, I turn to templates because they are quick and easy to use but this time around they were limiting as well. I am happy that I decided to start from a blank canvas and challenge my limits as a creator.
