Description:

The podcast will discuss editorial vs creative writing. We will compare and contrast the two styles of writing and provide our experiences. These experiences include writing for a school newspaper, editing for a yearbook, and writing in Digressions. We will also discuss audiences and advertisements in creative and editorial writing. We will discuss how much creativity is in the editing process and where it takes place. If we have more time we will discuss different magazines and different newspapers’ audiences. We will end on the types of editorial and creative writing pieces that we come across in the writing center.

Reflection:

Coming up for an idea of the podcast was mostly easy. Once we realized what areas of writing we each had the most experience from, the rest was simply laying out the structure of what the duration of the podcast would consist of. We sat through and created a list of questions we would each answer and created an order of who would speak first. We can all agree to that fact that recording a podcast virtually is much more challenging than in person, however Cleanfeed made it easy to record. The few times we messed up we laughed and kept recording. Because we each muted ourselves when we weren’t speaking, we were able to minimize the amount of background noise and speak over one another. This made editing the audio, while still challenging, as I (Nicole) don’t have much experience editing audio, much easier than otherwise. In my edits, I tried to reduce the background noise and remove any imperfections in our speech while still maintaining the natural, conversational tone we had been aiming for. I mostly removed “ums,” “likes,” and any times we tripped over our words. I also added a few transitions in post for the different topics we discussed throughout and some soothing music for the background (Illustrated Novel by Chad Crouch, accessed from Free Music Archive). Overall it was a fun project and we each were able to bring our personal experiences into the conversation.
