As a form of experiential learning, students in WRIT 5800 provide editorial and layout services for various groups. In winter 2022, students worked with Experiential Learning & Teaching in Higher Education: A Journal for Engaged Educators (ELTHE) an academic journal that focuses on concepts, practices, and scholarship documenting experiential education, and published semi-annually by Nova Southeastern University in cooperation with the NSEE (National Society for Experiential Eand ducation). WRIT 5800 students copyedited individual submissions for their “conference abstracts” issue, CRDM student Adit worked on the layout and design of the issue, overseen by WRIT 5800 instructor (and Production Manager for ELTHE), Dr. Eric Mason.
Reflection
Working for ELTHE was interesting to say the least. I wasn’t familiar with Adobe InDesign so it was definitely a challenge to format. I do wish design firms would consider to use other free to use software such as Canva in the future. The industry standard to create is always so financially taxing, and this is true even of contemporary traditional art tools (Copic Markers, Gauche, etc…). That being said I do think it’s good that I had the opportunity to use Adobe products as it may be helpful in the future.
