Description

This episode is a follow-up to Episode 1, released back in 2024 (Listen HERE.) In this episode, I talk extensively about the rise of Chief Keef, Lil Durk and Chicago drill music in 2012 and how it evolved into NY drill and UK drill music. I also talk about the SoundCloud Era and rappers who cultivated their fanbases on the platform, before discussing how the free streaming era took over. The SoundCloud Era is the bridge between the Mixtape & Blog Era and the Streaming Era we are currently in. The format is the same as the first episode, with song snippets weaved in between narrative, and features some DJ drops as well.

Reflection

Considering I was still crafting my portfolio and working on my defense this semester, this episode is substantially shorter than the first one, but I believe that’s appropriate since there’s more narrative as opposed to songs being played. I enjoyed crafting this episode, as it brought me back to my teenage years and reminded me of simpler times. I’m hopeful that listeners will find throwback artists or perhaps new ones to listen to, and consider their own habits as a consumer as we continue to shift to a digital realm.
