Description
For project 2, instead of doing a traditional podcast, I decided to take some Beyoncé songs and mash them together. Originally, I wanted to take all of her songs from every album and put them together, but after starting to do that, it proved to be a lot more difficult than I had previously thought, so I ended up mashing together fifteen of her songs. I tried to pick songs that people knew, but also songs that I liked and that I thought would work well together. For this project, I used GarageBand, mostly because it comes with my MacBook, and I tried other audio software and found GarageBand to be the easiest to use. To get around the DRM, I took her CD’s and copied them onto my laptop. I already owned most of her CD’s and found the ones I didn’t own through the library, then I copied them onto my laptop and transferred them into GarageBand. I started cutting the songs and arranging them in the order that I liked. This was the most difficult part because I was trying to find an order that sonically sounded the best, and some songs didn’t work together, so I rearranged the songs until I found an order that worked.
Reflection
The design process did affect me to a certain degree because I had to arrange the songs in the correct order, so there was a small level of design that went into it. This project differed from a typical writing assignment because I didn’t do any writing; the most writing I did for this assignment was writing out the order the songs should go in. Also, for my writing assignments, I don’t work in GarageBand or work with songs in general. My writing assignments feel more academic compared to this assignment, which was something that I really enjoyed about this project: just being able to have fun and kind of do what I wanted. I was most satisfied with the ending result when I finally figured out the correct order and then played it altogether; it was so cool. I was the least satisfied with some of the cuts; some of them could’ve been a little cleaner, but for my first time doing something like this, it was really fun, and I liked the end result!
